About us
Coastal Castaways was formed in March 2006. There was clearly a need for a GLBT Group in the lower mid north coast area. ( Gay & lesbian )
There are mixed events, such as monthly lunches , games evenings etc , as well as separate events for the girls & the guys.
We have run very successful yearly Mens Weeks, and we have guys from all over Australia and Internationally coming to our local area to enjoy a week of Bonding, Socialising, Bushwalking, and of course a Fabulous Dance party with great sound & lighting from our guest Djs...the likes of Justin Scott, Jimmy Dee , DJ Big Furr, DJ Tim and entertainment from the ever popular Miss Sandy B, Miranda Fair & formerly Glenda Jackson (dec) & who have helped at previous dances with our group.
The group has grown to over 1300 members
Another service that Coastal Castaways offers, is referral to counselling, to those people who have issues with coming out, handling their sexuality issues, and general support for the Greater GLBT Community.

Coastal Castaways Inc. is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit social group serving the LGBTQIA+ community on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales.
At Coastal Castaways our mission is to bring people together and foster meaningful connections through a variety of social activities and events.
Founding and Early History
Establishment: The group was founded in March 2006 to address a lack of social support for the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender) community in the lower Mid North Coast
Origin Story: The group was established by a former co-convenor of "Coastal Lynx," a group that previously linked Port Macquarie and the Coffs Harbour areas. He then set about and established Coastal Castaways to focus on his local area - the Lower Mid North Coast region.
Official Incorporation: In 2009, the group was officially registered as an insured, incorporated, not-for-profit organization. Our Committee was established.
Growth and Activities
Membership: Initially starting as a Yahoo group, it transitioned to Facebook and has grown to over 1,400 members as of 2026.
Key Events:
- Men’s Camps: Since 2009, the group has hosted highly successful annual Men’s Camps (often in April and October), drawing attendees from across Australia and internationally.
- Social Gatherings: The group organizes monthly lunches (typically the 3rd Sunday of the month), games evenings, and specific events for fundraising, such as monthly BBQs.
- Media and Outreach: They have been active in community media, previously producing the "Out on the Manning" radio show on 2BOB FM.
Charitable Impact: Since 2009, Coastal Castaways has donated over $40,000 to LGBTQIA+ charities, community groups, and local libraries in the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers regions.
